Sweet Child o' Mine - Lyrics

She's got a smile it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I'd stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry

Oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine

She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by

Oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine

Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine

Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh,
Sweet love of mine

Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Oh, oh
Where do we go?
Oh,
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Oh, (sweet child)
Where do we go now?
Oh,
Where do we go now?
Oh,
Where do we go?
Oh,
Where do we go now?
Oh,
Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Oh,
Where do we go now?
No, no, no, no, no, no
Sweet child,
Sweet child of mine.

Throughout the song he makes allusions to sacred childhood hiding places. "Where do we go now?" is a rhetorical question, asking "Where do I hide now?" It's impossible to get away like he could as a child because of the responsibilities and hardships that come with being an adult, not to mention his heightened awareness of all the world's problems.

Codes and Conventions of The Classic Rock Genre

Codes and Conventions of the Classic Rock Genre

 Classic Rock Music Video

  • Story line
You expect inmost classic rock music videos to include some sort of story line of which will then be linked to there theme and for the music video to plainly link to the song. For example "Bryan Adams Everything I do" It's a love song with a story line narrative in which both of these parts clearly link together.
  • Live band/Recording sessions
"Rock" in general is made up of instruments what's a  rock song without a Guitar solo, this is why in classic rock they have live bands being shown producing the music in which you hear. this then in turn links in with the storyline as the bands performances will reflect what's happening in the story at that present moment, the music will reflect that to. Some times for example in "You give love a bad name" They have a live concert going on where you can see the audience going mad.
  • Instrumental
The Use of instruments is key in any form of rock what rock band doesn't have guitar of drums. IF you take Classic Rock for example and Metal Scream both have bands, however classic rock incorporates melodic solos where allot of Metal Scream music doesn't so there are difference with using band music. Like if you compare "Slipknot and and Guns N Roses", Guns N roses is more melodic.
  • Lengthy guitar solo
The lead guitarist is the usually in line with the singer in the cases of being a front man. A rock audience will look for the guitar solo then when it arrives just erupt. in classic rock music videos guitar solos are used as a way of showing the true emotion of the story. For example in "November rain", the wife in the story dies Axl rose is feeling isolated the solo performed by slash shows this by going from a great huge church, to being outside a small church in the middle of the desert. This reflects the loneliness and the passion of the main protagonist in this story.
  • Theme "Love,Hate, Joy" any key emotions get put into classic rock
Some sort of story involved in the music video, just to mark the theme of the music. For example "Sweet child O Mine" this song is in the theme of love and the music video just looks and sounds as if Axl Rose is just venting his feelings in a random jamming session.
  • Performance
Rock bands perform they want to put on show. So in some Classic Music Videos they show what likes like just a recorded live performance in which the band will be running around playing there hearts out to the crowd and one another. A good example of this is "Bon jovi You give love a bad name" The Beatles Twist and shout music videos shows all of these features performing and engaging with the audience.
  • Style
Classic rockers are conventionally meant to look quite edgy with funky shoes special trousers  trousers and side ways hair. slash is a key example of this.

You never have to tell him what key the songs in or the chords he can feel it. He has a pure attachment to the Guitar and a great love for music! Effortlessly amazing! “Lucille didn't want to play nothing but the blues” truly connects to his instrument he says that “Lucille” can sing and he will never singer while she is. it’s like he’s having a conversation! He has back and forth with his guitar “ask and response”. Technique which is amazing.

Goodwins Theory

Goodwins theory is the idea of added characteristic to a music video. This can change depending on the genre but the idea is the same, a pop video might be quite bubbly and happy, for example, Katy Perry's Roar. Whereas a Rock video might be quite dark, for example, Marilyn Mason's Sweet Dreams

Sweet Child O' Mine: Goodwins Theory

Sweet Child O Mine

It's made to look like they've just walked up to there amps plugged in and played. Just some friends having a jamming session. There is a grey distorted effect used on the video as if it was just filmed on any old camera, to make it seem as if it was all just thrown together.

Panic! At The Disco: Goodwins Theory

Panic at the discos Ballad of Mona Lisa

This video is very sinister it is about betrayal and it's set in a steam punk fashion. The whole setting of the video is a funeral, which is marked by murder and betrayal. You can see this as the lead singer whole has been murdered is walking around as a Ghost/Phantom trying to bring the true details of his death to light. How he achieves this is that in life he wrote down the name of his "Killer" and placed the name in his pocket. In the end he speaks to a little girl and she discovers the note. The last sentence of the song is "Theirs nothing wrong with just a taste of what you've paid for" meaning the murderer who is now being punished got what she deserved.
